A Genes series that takes you behind the scenes, into the defining prints of the collection. From inspiration and conceptualization to the layered design processes, this edition of the "The Drawing Board" explores the upcoming Genes Fall Winter collection - Soleil.

This Fall, the genesis of the collection transpires from the source of all life - the Sun. "Soleil", French for sun- explores the solar essence and its interconnectedness to all elements that support life- earth, light, air and water. In doing so, the design process traces a narrative of the macro/microcosm- from the boundlessness of the sun to the microscopic cellular renders.
To trace the relationship between these elements and the Sun as the central force, was an exercise in understanding a universal rhythm. A cosmic cyclical pattern of the origin of life and its regeneration.

Light Amber
Sea foam Blue
Sandstone Pink
Clay
Chocolate Brown
Pine Green
The hues of the collection hark to the central theme of the sun but also the Aravalli terrains, where the campaign is shot. A mineral-esque palette of clay, sea foam blue, sandstone pink, taupe, lapis blue, pine green and light amber attempt to capture the rootedness of the theme.
"The motifs are always in unison, never isolated. This season, we have distanced from that singularity, finding a more assured language in the collective",
notes Didier.
Each print is meticulously drawn from scratch - conceptualised to illuminate the theme of the collection. Think a pattern of dots mimicking the movement of glowing aurora in an expansive sky or a cluster of irregular circular forms inspired from complex plant micro cells; the motifs echo the larger story of origin of life and the expansiveness of the universe.
Inspired from an endangered floral species called "Kadupul", a mystical botanic print comes to life. It carries profound meaning & symbolism, both culturally & spritually. This "Queen of Night" when captured using UV imaging, reveals unique patterns & colors, invisble to human naked eye. It is this almost scientific take on nature that sets the visual language apart.
"Soleil" sets the foundation for clothes that become an initiation. An initiation of conversation, engagement and thought.", emphasises Hemant. In these sombre times, the simple act of dressing becomes powerful, through thoughtfully designed clothes, crafted to inspire.
